Drafts and case files that survive a stolen laptop
An advocate's practice runs on drafts, pleadings, orders and client documents, usually on one laptop and a phone full of WhatsApp. triplicate copies them every night, encrypted so we can't read them.
What you hold, and where it lives today
Usually one copy, in one place. That's the part we fix.
| Records | Where they usually live |
|---|---|
| Drafts, pleadings and petitions | The advocate's and juniors' laptops |
| Orders, judgments and certified copies | Downloaded PDFs and scans |
| Client documents: agreements, title deeds, notices | Email, WhatsApp and scanned files |
| Case diary and hearing dates | A diary, an app or a spreadsheet |
| Fee bills and receipts | The office PC or a notebook |
How it actually gets lost
- A laptop stolen from a car outside court, or left in an autorickshaw, takes every draft with it.
- The hearing is tomorrow and the final version of the petition is on a junior's laptop, and the junior is unwell.
- Matters run for years. A draft filed in 2019 and the documents behind it still have to be found.
- Client confidentiality means you can't drop files into any free cloud drive.
What we back up
You choose the folders and mailboxes. Copy one stays with you; copies two and three go to two storage providers you choose, one of them on another continent (Mumbai or Hyderabad if your data must stay in India).
Laptops
Case folders from every laptop in the chamber, every night, with older versions of each draft.
Phone documents
Only the folders you pick from the phone, encrypted before upload.
The chamber's mailboxes, copied every few hours.
End-to-end encryption
Files are encrypted on your machine before they leave. We can't read your clients' papers.
Share bills with your CA, every month
Your accountant needs the same papers every GST month and every July. Put them in one shared folder instead of sending photos over WhatsApp.
A 'For my CA' folder
Supplier bills you scan, sales reports and bank statements are filed by financial year and month automatically.
Your CA opens it directly
Invite your CA by phone or email. They view and download what they need, when they need it.
Returns come back to the same place
Let your CA add files, so filed returns and acknowledgements sit next to the bills they came from.
You stay in control
See what was opened and downloaded, and remove access in one tap. Nothing else in your backup is shared.
